It is officially that time of year now. December has kicked off and getting ready for Christmas is in full swing. If you haven’t been invited yet, you are most likely going to be going to your company Christmas party or your husbands/boyfriends pretty soon. A lot of people that I know actually had theirs this past weekend already. My company is pretty big so we have one for a networking group that we are part of through the company every year. It has been at the Petroleum Club, Alley Theatre and this year is at the Museum of Natural Science. I am pretty excited because I have not been there since I was younger. We will be having dinner and drinks near the dinosaur area, so I am looking forward to it. The one thing I would always recommend at work Christmas parties is to keep it classy. Basically do the opposite of that funny movie “Office Christmas Party” that came out last year. You will be around a lot of coworkers and very important people. Just because you are not in a typical office environment, you still want to make a good impression and not have everyone talking about you come Monday morning. If you are a date to a company Christmas party then you for sure don’t want to make a bad impression. This can be the most fun you have had all year long, but getting the outfit nailed down is also something to consider.

What to Wear to a Company Christmas Party

  • Stick to a LBD: A little black dress will always be in style no matter what year you are in. This is my favorite black dress and I honestly wore it last year and going to be wearing it again this year too. There is something so simple about a black dress that doesn’t require much thinking when putting your outfit together too.
  • Don’t Be Revealing: I know that this is an after work event, but I still try to stick to the same outfit rules even if I was at work. The last couple of dresses that I have worn, I have been able to wear them during a normal work day if I had to. This is a good rule to follow because there are so many outfits out there that can show way too much skin. You don’t want everyone looking at you throughout this event. So I would say the more conservative the better.
  • Add Some Trend: Your outfit does not have to be boring just because you are going to a company work party. There are so many trends that are fun out there right now so pick one or two and incorporate your outfit around it. I loved the ruffle sleeves with this dress, and statement sleeves are everywhere right now. If you have velvet in your dress or could bring a velvet clutch, then have some fun by adding some trendy touches.
  • Don’t Wear Your New Stilettos: We all know that shoes take a while to break in, but just like at weddings here at company Christmas parties you will also be on your feet a lot. There is a ton of socializing and networking going on and most likely you won’t be sitting down for the majority of this. You will still want to wear cute shoes, but try to refrain from any new ones that you haven’t worn before. Trust me on this one as I have made this rookie mistake.
  • Darker Fabrics Are Better: If you end up not going with a little black dress, I would still recommend sticking to a darker fabric. This is just more classy in my opinion and more appropriate for a work Christmas party. Also if something ends up happening and you accidentally spill your drink or get food on your clothes, then hopefully it will be less noticeable in something with a darker fabric.
  • Bring Your Smile: This is a time where you will be meeting with a lot of people and also meeting a lot of new people. If you are going with your significant other to their Christmas party, then this will be the first time you have probably met some of their coworkers. The best thing to do at these situations is to always have your best smile forward. Even if you don’t follow any of these outfit rules, then at least your smile will look good.

I hope these tips help navigate what you are going to wear to that next company Christmas party. We all want to make a great impression at this fun event, but having the right clothing pieces is also key. These tips will have people talking and wanting your outfit after the party ends. Remember to have fun and most importantly smile while networking at this fun annual event.
