Thanksgiving is next week and I don’t know about you but it comes earlier and earlier every year. Some of you already have your full blown on Christmas decorations out, but you can’t forget about an important holiday that honors being thankful for everything you have in your life. This is one of my favorite holidays as I have mentioned before because it is all about family, eating, and socializing which are my three favorite things. Normally I don’t cook very often at all. It is my best friend and I that live together and a lot of the time we have opposite schedules so cooking an elaborate meal is normally only done if we are hosting a party. We have started a book club though and will be hosting that next week, so some recipes will come in handy. During this time of year I do find myself in the kitchen and helping my mom cook for Thanksgiving, especially with the desserts. I have never hosted Thanksgiving before by myself, but know that will come one day. I do always like to get dressed up when our family comes to my parents house and like to wine and dine the guests without wearing just jeans and a big sweater.

Trust me that is the easy way to dress especially when you are going to be in a food coma after eating all of the food, but I always like to look a little more dressy. If you are hosting Thanksgiving you want to be a little dressed up, yet comfortable too. When I went into my favorite vintage store Cheeky Vintage last week I knew that I wanted to get something with a 70’s vibe and that was glamorous, but not too uncomfortable either. This dress is the perfect 70’s hostess dress with the long velvet and leopard print. Which when paired together are two of the most perfect prints/materials. Velvet is so big right now and you will see more of this material soon on the blog for all of your holiday entertaining looks. A long maxi dress would also be a good choice as it is comfy, but still elegant as well. You could always swap the heels for flats if you will be in the kitchen a lot or put some boots on if you really want to be comfortable. The colors are my favorite part about this look. Thanksgiving always includes warm colors, so wearing something in neutral with a splash of print would be a great look. Pairing your outfit with some great jewelry in gold or silver will just tie the entire look together. When hosting Thanksgiving your look does not have to be complicated, just effortless with a little you touch just like your entire meal is going to be. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving, here below are some of my favorite hosting tips.

  • Always have beverages on hand: Have a mix of red/white wine (join a wine club if you haven’t yet, still needing to), at least 1 spirit, beer, plenty of non alcoholic drinks always on stock.
  • Cheese is the way to go: I always pick up a different kind of cheese whenever I am at the grocery store. You never know when you are going to need it and it works whether you bring it for Thanksgiving or people stop by at your place unexpected. Everyone loves cheese!
  • Light a candle: This is my number one hosting tip is to always have your favorite candles lit. I love lighting a candle as soon as I get home from a long day. Guests love the smell of candles and it makes a home that more inviting when there is an awesome scent burning.
  • Keep functional areas clean: One thing my roommate and I always have clean is our functional areas i.e. kitchen/living room/dining room. If this is always neatly picked up you can host anything last minute. There is always going to be that time when someone pops up unannounced and you don’t want your place to be a wreck for them not to come in.
  • Stock up on fun napkins/straws: I feel like every time I go to Target I end up coming out with the cutest beverage napkins or straws. Half of the time they are on major clearance which makes it even better too. Adding a little fun napkin or straw to a glass gives it a fun flair and that its truly a celebration even when its not Thanksgiving and is just a normal Wednesday night.

I love the vintage vibes of your dress, but it also has a timeless quality to it. I didn’t even realize it was vintage until you pointed that out. Also, loving your shoes!
