Cabo Travel Guide

I close my eyes sometimes and I still wish I was at the resort that I stayed in when I was in Cabo a couple of weeks ago. It still seems like I was just there soaking up the sun and just relaxing. This was my first time to Cabo and I had an absolute blast. Normally my family likes to go on cruises, so I think I have been on about 17 cruises. Flying to a destination in Mexico was actually nice for a change, but I do get a little annoyed about the airport and how long it takes for everything it seems like. As I have mentioned before this was my first time at an all-inclusive resort and I really enjoyed it. Being used to going on cruises I liked how everything was in one spot and it took away your hard decisions of finding a place to eat. The only decision was what type of cuisine I wanted that night, because they basically had it all. When I realized that drinks were included as well I was in heaven. I had not had that luxury before and to be honest on cruises is when my drink bill can sometimes be as much as my cruise, hey I am on vacation though right! We went to Cabo for one of my best friends from high school’s wedding and it was incredible. This was my first time also for a destination wedding, so lots of firsts for this trip. Going to a destination wedding I feel like for sure makes you closer to everyone you are with as well. I mean you are there for several days and you are in paradise after all. The wedding was on Thursday and we decided to fly in on Tuesday and stay through Saturday. I thought this was great for a short beach and relaxing trip. We mainly stayed at the resort the whole time except venturing off on one day. This made it easy, convenient and actually a pretty cheap trip which is always nice too!

To Stay

  • Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos – This was the all-inclusive resort that we stayed at and I highly recommend it. It was calm and absolutely gorgeous. What I liked the most about this resort was how nice it was and that it was up in the cliffs and right on the ocean. I have talked to other people who have been to Cabo before and they had amazing things to say about this resort and how it was family friendly, but to me seemed more calm and adult friendly. What I was worried about was the food being at an all-inclusive resort, but this one did not disappoint. It had about 5 pools and restaurants and great rooms too which is always a plus. They had some activities scheduled including music every night by a bonfire as well as a sushi making class that we took too which was so fun! My recommendation especially when you are in Mexico is to stay at an all-inclusive. This makes it so much easier in the long run.

To Eat/Drink

We honestly stayed at our resort every day except for one day, and the food was amazing there so below is very limited to 2 items. I have heard great things about other local restaurants, we just enjoyed the food and drinks we had at the resort and it was included!

  • Seafood/Mexican Food – I sometimes am a little weary when it comes to different types of Mexican food other than Tex-Mex, but here the food was pretty yummy and really fresh as well. If you go fishing which I will talk to you about below, if you catch anything you can bring it back to your resort and they can cook it fresh for you which is so awesome! We had authentic Mexican food when we went into town one morning for breakfast while we were fishing. Since Cabo is known for their amazing large fish you have to try some seafood when you are there too.
  • Mojito – This is kind of a random thing that I would not normally drink, but this was my drink of choice during the entire trip. You can’t be a on a beach without one of these in your hand, it just does not seem right. At our resort they had a whole mojito stand that was dedicated to making specialty mojitos including pineapple and my favorite serrano pepper mojitos!

To Do

  • Relax on the Beach – Our resort was right on the ocean and it had breath taking views of the water for miles out. In the mornings after breakfast we would go down to the beach and walk on the sand. One thing that was different about Cabo compared to other tropical places I had been to was that their sand was a lot rougher than other areas. There were lots of rocks in it which was fun because we skipped rocks one day and it was a competition, but that was one thing that I had noticed that was quite different. The rocks are gorgeous but you don’t see a lot of people swimming in the ocean on the beach as much because the water is a lot rougher. It is probably one of the prettiest beaches I have seen and I loved reading my book with my mojito and just relaxing.
  • Go Deep Sea Fishing – This was one of those bucket list items that you have to do in Cabo because they are known for their fishing of pretty big fish. I would highly recommend taking some sea sickness medication if you think you might slightly get sick. I took some and I was still sick during the entire fishing trip. We went almost 40 miles out on a private charter and it was fun other than me being sick. Sadly we did not get one bite! That is why they call it fishing I guess. They provide breakfast, lunch and all of the drinks you want too. What was so cool was there was sea lions that came up on the boat when we were pulling back in and we also saw whales! That to me was the most fun about the fishing trip 🙂
  • Visit the Arc – This is probably the most famous sight seeing item in Cabo. This arc is so pretty and if you get to see it at sunrise, it is even better. This was the one thing I had to do in Cabo and made sure our fishing guide took us there first when we went out on the boat. We didn’t get too close to it or was able to drive in between the rocks because of the size of our boat, but seeing it from where we were was just as beautiful.
  • Play Golf – There are world-renowned golf courses in Cabo and the one right by our resort was pretty amazing. The courses have rock cliffs all around them and a view of the ocean is right there. I would highly recommend this for any guy to do one of the days. It can get a little pricey, but is for sure a bucket list item. If you can’t play I at least would get a cool hat or polo shirt there 🙂
  • Get a Massage – This was my favorite activity while we were in Cabo. . Our resort had a wine spa which I had never heard of before, but really enjoy wine. All of their products that they use come from the grapes used in wine and are supposed to have amazing health benefits and smell great too. We came down to the spa more than once because they had a whole spa area with a sauna and steam room and hot tubs which are great to just relax.
  •  Rent an ATV – We did not do this on our trip, but our friends did and they had a blast. If we were there 1 more day we would have done this and scheduled it probably the day before we got our massage. This is a couple of hours excursion and be prepared to get dusty and have fun. You wear a bandanna over your face because where it takes you can get pretty dirty too. I love riding 4-wheelers in the country when I visit my relatives so this would have been fun to try.
  • Go Whale Watching – Luckily we were able to see whales when we were on our fishing trip, but if you don’t have a fishing trip planned I would highly suggest going on a guided tour of whale watching. My friends did this and said it was awesome. Some mornings we could actually see the whales from where we were eating for breakfast which was so neat. If you want to get a little closer and see a lot, a trip is great for this!

I am so glad that we were able to go to Cabo for my friend’s wedding and enjoy what this beautiful area has to offer. I would highly recommend visiting here and going for a girls trip too. We didn’t explore the crazy bar areas like Cabo Wabo or any of that, but heard that is fun too. We wanted to just stay at the resort and be with our friends and family. Next time I am going to book several massages and if I could I would fish again because that would be so cool reeling in a huge fish like that. Wish I was still in paradise dancing under the stars and soaking up the sun during the day!

Love your guide! I recently stayed at Fiesta Americana too and really loved it! I also had a massage and it was one of the best I had. Can’t wait to get back to Cabo! Cheers!
