nordstrom anniversary sale 2019: staple items

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019 Staple Items

It’s that time of year again! The number one sale that everyone loves to shop. I love shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because all of my favorite staple items are always discounted by a lot. I am not one that will necessary always shop sales to buy the latest trendy items. I do tend to buy 1-2 trendy items, but for me it is all about what do I currently need, what needs replaced, or what do I need extra of. Having this mindset as you go into the sale, I believe will help that much more. Items can easily add up and if you have a plan in place and have assessed your closet already, then you know what you need to buy. One rule that I try to stick to especially when I am shopping online is one item in and one item out. This way I am not overloading my closet, my clothes are still relevant, and I honestly don’t have to buy any more hangers. I have already made a purchase for all my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale staple items that I need. If you are a card holder you know that you have access before the general public opens on Friday 7/19. See below for some of my picks on what I would buy if you need some of your favorite staple items.

Sweaters/Jackets

These are one of those staple items that we can’t seem to want to buy right now because it is well over 95 degrees currently. If you are like me you are thinking more positive that you can’t wait for the Fall/Winter. It is a good time to stock up on these staples early and get good quality sweaters and coats that are going to last you a couple of years. I always try to find sweaters and jackets in neutral colors like this  that will last all throughout the year, and that you can mix and match with.

  • This sweater I love because of it’s oversize and the crewneck style. It comes in my favorite shade camel and also pink and grey.
  • I love the classic look of a turtleneck and this one is cropped and comes in the most gorgeous lilac color that would go great through Winter and Spring.
  • This pink knit blazer is one that I purchased that I can see myself wearing to the office over a black sheath dress and also on the weekend with jeans and a white t-shirt. The color is so fun too!
  • Who doesn’t love animal print, and this will be even bigger this upcoming season than before. I am still partial to leopard print and this sweater does the trick, and you could wear it from work to the weekend.
  • I bought this sweater because I loved the color options and the style of it. I ended up going with the burgundy/purple color and can’t wait to wear it.
  • If you are needing a new staple jacket for the season I would get this faux suede jacket. The color options are great and the style cut is very sophisticated. I love the grey personally!
  • One of the staple items that I had not had in my closet other than an old sorority one was a rain jacket. I had been wanting a classic one that I could wear in all types of weather. I spotted this raincoat and went with the army green color. I love the longer length which makes it even more classic.

Active Wear/Lounge Wear

These are the staples that I always buy the most of during this sale. They say it’s a good idea to replace your sports bras and leggings every year, and this is when I do it. It also gives me more motivation to work out or chill if I am buying lounge wear when I know that I have something new to wear for it. My most favorite brand of workout wear is always a top seller during this sale, so I try to snag some items early for this.

  • If you want to be totally relaxed and basically fall asleep in a blanket then you need to pick up this cardigan. There are some great colors and once you feel it, you will not be disappointed.
  • The holy grail of workout pants are these that I stock up on every year. I tend to just get them in the classic black, but they offer more colors now as well. These are great quality and after washing them a ton they still look just as new. I only buy these during the sale because of the great deal.
  • If we are talking about loungewear here, who doesn’t love a nice pullover sweatshirt to throw on and go! If you are going to a workout class or watching Netflix, this oversized pullover in this mint shade will do the trick.
  • I am obsessed with this fleece jacket! We have all seen the fleece jackets year after year, but this one is rose color and zips up, instead of just a pullover.
  • It is always a good idea to replace your workout shoes every year, and during the sale is the perfect time to get a new pair. I snagged these rose gold running shoes and I can’t wait until they get here. They are light weight and the gold mixed with white gives it such a trendy clean look.
  • You wouldn’t think that faux leather leggings would be a part of lounge wear, but these are so comfy that it is hard to not wear them throughout your house or to run errands in. They slim like no other brand, and are still stretchy for a more fashion forward print.
  • Everyone needs a workout tank top when they are running around on the weekends. This ribbed tank provides the ease and comfort of a workout tank with the fashion of a sweater because of the ribbed material. I got this in both pink and black.
  • Who doesn’t love slippers? I was in desperate need of a new pair and saw these that I can’t wait to try! They come in more colors than just neutrals including a hot pink. I ended up going with a light grey, and can’t wait to feel like I am walking on a cloud.

Work Wear

This is the number one category that I wear on a weekly basis. If you are like me and are a corporate working girl, then you know you always have to have a great wardrobe with work wear staples that you can mix and match with. Before I bought some pieces I went and assessed what I needed in my closet and what looked like it needed to be replaced. It is fun to try to make the work environment trendy, but know to always have some classic pieces in there as well.

  • I had these tie waist pants in black already and ended up going with the burgundy color this time. These pants hit at the right length, and the tie waist gives you more shape. I don’t care for just straight leg pants in the work place and prefer a detail like this tie or a more skinny or wide flare pant. There are several other colors to choose from in these great pants.
  • These loafers were too good to not get more than 1 color of them. I ended up getting both the chocolate and the snake skin print in this pointy toe classic loafer. I am not one that prefers to wear heels to the office, and flats are more of my look. These are trendy but look super classy all in one.
  • I am all about oversized blazers and have been for a couple of years now. I have a pin stripe one already that I usually wear to the office with skinny pants or a dress. When I spotted this classic plaid blazer, I knew that I had to have it. I can see myself wearing it over a blush dress that I have or on the weekends with jeans.
  • A great classic dress is always something that is needed in the office. Whether you are giving a presentation or have lots of meetings, a nice form fitting dress is something that always should be in your closet. This long sleeved dress is form fitting enough, but still a little loose for a work appropriate look. The colors are classic and I ended up going with a military green.
  • If I am not wearing a dress to work, I typically like a classic blouse with tie waist pants. This v-neck blouse will work for any work type environment and you can style it a million ways. I went with the burgundy color and see myself pairing it with my leopard print skirt.
  • This suede tote is a great work bag to have. It will hold all of your essentials as well as your laptop and files. The price is great as well and it will last you a long time. I think it is important to invest in something like this that you will use on a daily basis. Not to mention that this color is pretty amazing as well.
  • If it is a casual Friday in the Fall and you have a long sweater with some cute booties, then I like to wear some quality leggings. These are so comfortable and I feel like I am that much more productive when I feel comfortable as well.
  • A fun dress like this maxi leopard dress is what I would say is my go to in the office on special events. This is a great business length and leopard is of course basically a neutral after all. If you pair it with some classic pumps it would be a great piece.

Jeans

Every year I buy at least 1 pair of jeans during this sale. I am pretty particular on my jeans and preferably only get designer ones. Over the years I have realized that the ones that I have spent $100 + on have lasted me twice as long. I always look to see if I have a great dark wash jean, black jean, and some fun jeans for the weekends. This sale has all of the above and for a great price.

  • I got these flared jeans and can’t wait to wear them. I used to have a nice pair of flared jeans for years and finally needed to get a new pair. These would work well even at the office on casual Fridays. They can pair well with a nice sweater or a flowy top too!
  • This is my favorite brand of jeans and I love the classic meets trendy with this style. You always need to have a great skinny jean and these with a little bit of distressed look are a great piece to have on repeat in your closet.
  • I still love a great raw hem on jeans. These black raw hem denim jeans are a classic skinny with a great detail on the ends. I wear mine probably every weekend.
  • These straight leg jeans are some of the more trendy jeans that I love. I have a pair that are like this that I love wearing with a ribbed sweater or tight tank top. They are so comfortable to wear, and I would wear them every day if I could.
